2015 Technology Ventures Conference: Maximizing your Intellectual Property through Entrepreneurship

US Patent & Trademark Office to speak to local inventors and innovators

Individuals with commercial-ready products are invited to the "Technology Ventures Conference: Maximizing Your Intellectual Property through Entrepreneurship" on Thursday, June 18th in Edinburg.

The one-day event features the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and experts specializing in intellectual property laws and business development. The USPTO is the federal agency charged with granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks. It advises the President of the United States, the secretary of commerce, and U.S. government agencies on intellectual property (IP) policy, protection, and enforcement; and promotes the stronger and more effective IP protection around the world.

"Having a magnificent idea is only part of the challenge in launching an enterprise. There are many factors to consider, such as patents, trademarks, or copyrights, to name a few elements. Individuals looking to commercialize their ideas may consider licensing or partnerships, for example. Financing options for these enterprises also takes careful thought and planning. These issues will be addressed by experts in their fields so we encourage individuals to join us to learn more about these concerns," shares Senior Business Advisor Janie Caballero with the UTPA Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Pre-registration is strictly required for this event. The $25 fee has been waived thanks to sponsorship from the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation; McAllen Chamber of Commerce; Mission Economic Development Corporation; and the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center!  The no-cost admission includes lunch.
