SUMMARY:Let’s Talk Business-Know the Facts: Equal Employment Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:About the Series Organized by the SBA Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office\n\nIntroducing the "Let's Talk Business Series"\, a 12-part program connecting entrepreneurs with federal\, state\, and local small business resources. Whether you're a budding entrepreneur or want to grow your business\, this series presents essential business topics\, provides a forum for networking\, and promotes success in today's dynamic business environment. Participants may attend one\, two\, six\, or all sessions.\n\nSession 10 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)\n\nPreventing employment discrimination from occurring in the workplace in the first place is preferable to remedying the consequences of discrimination. Employment discrimination generally exists when an employer treats an applicant or employee less favorably because of a person's race\, color\, religion\, sex\, age (over 40)\, national origin\, or disability. Most employers with at least 15 employees are covered by EEOC laws. The laws apply to all types of work situations\, including hiring\, firing\, promotions\, harassment\, training\, wages\, and benefits.\n\nThis session\, presented by the Texas Workforce Commission-Civil Rights Division\, will assist employers in determining the laws enforced by EEO and how to prevent and correct discrimination in the workplace.\n\n\n\nDiscover and Learn:\n\n\n	Defining and Identifying Discrimination\n	Protected Classes\n	Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications (disabilities)\n	Sexual Harassment\n\n\nFor more information\, contact Veronica Ortega at 956-427-8535 or email at veronica.ortega@sba.gov.\n\nAbout the Texas Workforce Commission-Civil Rights Division:\n\nTexas Workforce Commission (TWC) is the state agency overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers in Texas. TWC strengthens the Texas economy by providing the workforce development component of the Governor's economic development strategy. The Civil Rights Division enforces the Texas Labor Code\, Chapter 21. The Division enters into a contract with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nThe U.S. Small Business Administration provides programs and services on a nondiscriminatory basis. Moreover\, SBA can make reasonable arrangements for persons with disabilities if requested at least two weeks in advance.\n\nThe SBA's participation does not endorse any opinion\, product\, or service of the organizations in attendance. The SBA organizes informational workshops for business development purposes only.
